How to Retain Employees – A Happy Workplace

Anyone that is trying to recruit strong talent for their organisation will tell you that it is easier said than done, especially in a country where unemployment is at an all time low. Of course, this is a good thing but it makes it more difficult to find the right candidate to join a new organisation. Following on from our previous post where we discussed workplace benefits that attract talent to your organisation, we are now discussing the factors that will help you retain talent in your organisation. Key to this is workplace happiness and employee satisfaction. Most people will spend most of their day and lifetime working so making it a positive place to be will only increase productivity.

Highlighted in our last post as one of the easiest, cheapest and best ways to attract talent to your organisation is feedback. Employees appreciate when you take an interest in their future career path. Giving mini-reviews throughout the year before their designated annual review is an encouraging step to show your employee’s that they are on the right path.

Occasionally breaking up the office routine can increase productivity for the remainder of the week. Doing the same task day after day can become monotonous and boring, hosting a meeting in a local café periodically can be an excellent motivator and welcome relief for your employees.

Getting to know your employees on a personal level can help reduce stress. They won’t feel uncomfortable in sharing future issues that may affect their work and it also shows that you care about them as an individual as well as an employee.

Allowing your employees more flexibility with regards their working schedule and giving employees the option of remote working can show not only your trust in them but also promotes a healthy work life balance.

These are just a few simple considerations to think about for your organisation. Every office space is different therefore only you will know what is going to motivate your employees and keep talent in your workplace. And if in doubt just ask them, this way you won’t have to waste your time and resources on something that won’t actually benefit you or your employees.
