Controls Automation Engineer – Permanent Role (Cork)

An exciting opportunity has opened for a Controls Automation Engineer in Co. Cork. If you have strong PLC, HMI/SCADA experience and a passion for automated machine design, specification, and development, this is your chance to be part of a dynamic, cross-functional team. From concept to full implementation, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and commissioning cutting-edge machine control systems.
This is a permanent role requiring a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel. Candidates requiring work authorisation in Ireland cannot be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Automation & Control System Development – Design and integrate software for PLCs, Robotics, Motion, HMI, SCADA, Vision Systems.
- Machine Design & Specification – Develop system architectures, process flows, and software design specifications.
- Equipment Testing & Commissioning – Develop, test, debug, and validate control system software.
- Compliance & Documentation – Ensure designs meet CE, electrical, machinery safety and regulatory standards, including GAMP, ISA88, ISA95 & 21CFR Part 11.
- Component & System Specification – Select and specify control system components to ensure efficient machine operation.
- Cross-functional Collaboration – Work closely with multi-disciplinary project teams and provide ongoing customer support.
- Innovation & Standardization – Drive continuous improvement and the adoption of new control system technologies.
What You’ll Need
- Level 8 qualification in Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5+ years’ experience in automation & controls, preferably in MedTech or regulated industries.
- Strong expertise in PLC, HMI & SCADA systems – experience with Allen Bradley or Siemens is highly desirable.
- Experience with software architectures & design (GAMP, ISA88, ISA95, 21CFR Part 11 compliance).
- Hands-on knowledge of robotics, motion control, machine vision & pneumatics – KUKA robot experience is a plus!
- Ability to create & review technical documentation for regulated industries.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- A proactive, energetic mindset with the ability to work within a multifunctional team.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
