PLC Controls Software Engineer
Job Description
PLC Controls Software Engineer required by a market-leading manufacturing multinational in Co. Kerry, to be responsible for the design and implementation of PLC software and supporting Windows-based applications, integrating with third-party hardware, instrumentation and operating systems to ensure smooth and reliable operation.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Design and develop control software

Integrate control systems with sensors, instrumentation and third-party platforms

Collaborate with electrical, mechanical and commissioning teams to deliver project-specific solutions

Support testing, commissioning and service teams throughout the project lifecycle

Assist the sales team with technical documentation, training materials and tender support

Conduct system analysis and participate in risk assessments to meet safety and performance standards

Document and maintain all aspects of the software development lifecycle
REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Level 7 qualification in Mechatronics, Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field

Experience in developing large-scale control systems using ABB PLCs (Automation Builder) or similar platforms

Familiarity with the software development lifecycle, including version control, code reviews and issue tracking (e.g., Jira, Confluence)

Proficiency in Codesys programming, both safety and non-safety systems

Working knowledge of SCADA systems and scripting languages

Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Profinet, Profibus, CAN bus, Modbus)

Understanding of performance levels (PLr / SIL) and safety compliance

Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills

Willingness to travel internationally from time to time
