Senior FPGA Development Engineer
Job Description
A leading provider of communication solutions is seeking a Senior FPGA Engineer to join its R&D team based in Limerick. The team is focused on developing market-leading products used by global leaders across industries such as Media & Entertainment, Air Traffic Control and Healthcare. You will be part of a collaborative and agile environment, contributing to the definition, development, and delivery of high-performance systems.
Responsibilities:

Collaborate with product managers, developers, and testers to define feature requirements.

Develop feature specifications and detailed designs using Verilog and FPGA development tools.

Implement, validate, and debug FPGA-based solutions within embedded systems.

Troubleshoot, replicate, and resolve customer-reported issues.

Create and maintain release notes and technical documentation.

Work closely with both onsite and international teams to deliver best-in-class products.

Mentor junior engineers in development processes, coding standards and debugging techniques.
REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

12+ years of hands-on FPGA development experience.

Expertise in Verilog/SystemVerilog and embedded system debugging.

Strong experience with AMD/Xilinx FPGAs using Vivado/Vitis toolchains.

Familiarity with simulation tools such as Xilinx/AMD simulators and ModelSim.

Excellent analytical skills with the ability to work in dynamic environments.

Proven experience across the full FPGA development cycle.

Proficiency with hardware validation using debuggers, protocol analyzers, and logic analyzers.

Knowledge of modern 32-bit processors/microcontrollers (e.g., ARM) and associated toolchains.

Strong communication skills — verbal and written.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
ADVANTAGEOUS:

Experience developing embedded Linux kernels and device drivers.

Knowledge of video and audio codec standards such as MPEG4 and JPEG.

Expertise in USB protocols and systems.

Solid understanding of networking protocols and architectures (Ethernet, IP, TCP).

Experience developing protocols for embedded systems.
