A leading provider of communication solutions is seeking a Senior FPGA Engineer to join its R&D team based in Limerick. The team is focused on developing market-leading products used by global leaders across industries such as Media & Entertainment, Air Traffic Control and Healthcare. You will be part of a collaborative and agile environment, contributing to the definition, development, and delivery of high-performance systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with product managers, developers, and testers to define feature requirements.

  • Develop feature specifications and detailed designs using Verilog and FPGA development tools.

  • Implement, validate, and debug FPGA-based solutions within embedded systems.

  • Troubleshoot, replicate, and resolve customer-reported issues.

  • Create and maintain release notes and technical documentation.

  • Work closely with both onsite and international teams to deliver best-in-class products.

  • Mentor junior engineers in development processes, coding standards and debugging techniques.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

  • 12+ years of hands-on FPGA development experience.

  • Expertise in Verilog/SystemVerilog and embedded system debugging.

  • Strong experience with AMD/Xilinx FPGAs using Vivado/Vitis toolchains.

  • Familiarity with simulation tools such as Xilinx/AMD simulators and ModelSim.

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to work in dynamic environments.

  • Proven experience across the full FPGA development cycle.

  • Proficiency with hardware validation using debuggers, protocol analyzers, and logic analyzers.

  • Knowledge of modern 32-bit processors/microcontrollers (e.g., ARM) and associated toolchains.

  • Strong communication skills — verbal and written.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

ADVANTAGEOUS:

  • Experience developing embedded Linux kernels and device drivers.

  • Knowledge of video and audio codec standards such as MPEG4 and JPEG.

  • Expertise in USB protocols and systems.

  • Solid understanding of networking protocols and architectures (Ethernet, IP, TCP).

  • Experience developing protocols for embedded systems.
