Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Tooling & Moulding) required for permanent role with established medical devices multinational in North Dublin. You will work on the design & manufacture of complex Medical Devices Instruments for global markets
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant technical discipline (Mechanical, Mechatronic, Med Engineering)
- 8+ years post-qualification experience in a Mechanical Design role
- Excellent knowledge of the design of tooling for injection moulded or casted parts
- Material Science background – understanding the complexity of moulding in achieving a consistent product
- Can complete a mould / mold flow analysis, identifying potential problems or weaknesses in a vendor’s tool design
- Excellent knowledge of Metals & Materials resins, plastics that are casted (sand, die) or injection-moulded and understands how parts can be manufactured and assembled using DFM principles
- Understands how to complete DOE’s to enhance processes and improve quality
- Experienced CAD Designer with good PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) system knowledge (Siemens NX / Teamcenter)
- Experience of GDT & applicable standards
- Experience designing complex medical devices / instruments
- Knowledge of the validation of design changes
- Structured analysis skills with experience in complex technical trouble shooting
- Excellent communications skills- written and verbal skills are required
Responsibilities:

Providing product and process design solutions to enhance internal process capability and the performance of installed products at customer sites

Provide technical support to manufacturing and test of medical instrumentation product platforms in a low volume, high complexity and highly regulated technology environment

Design and validate technical solutions to enhance product and process capability

Capability to analyze problems to root cause with a structured approach and fully develop solutions, including all associated planning and design validation activity

Work across a significant subset of the key technologies involved in modern instrumentation such as fluidics, molding, electro-mechanics, software, electronics, optics, machining, metal fabrication etc.

You will be a ‘Local Process Owner’ & develop and manage systems of metrics for manufacturing and projects

Complete systems analysis and develop projects to drive continuous improvement in key metric’s in alignment with Lean, 6 Sigma, Design Robustness Principles and A3 Problem Solving Principles

You will be a member of several project teams working with Manufacturing Engineering, Product Lifecycle Engineering, Q.A. R&D, Service and Continuous Improvement

Significantly contribute to product and process design initiatives through all design stage phases (problem definition, containment, setting target condition, root cause, solution design, validation, implementation, monitoring on the production floor)

Participate in the continuous development of the quality system, including standard operating procedures (SOP’s), workflow development, product and process validations coupled with the ability to write concise technical reports

Support new product introduction and technology transfer initiatives from design through to maturation of product and process
